Using a Cold Press Laminator as a Printmaking Press!
Want to try printmaking at home but don’t have access to a traditional etching press? Good news- In this post (and my latest video), I’ll show you how to repurpose a cold press laminator as a functional printmaking press.
Laminators are designed to apply even pressure, which makes them surprisingly effective for certain types of printmaking. Whether you’re a beginner, an artist working in a small space, or just looking for a budget-friendly option, this method could be a game-changer!
I’ll be demonstrating how to use a laminator for: Collagraph prints – Texture-rich and full of depth. Drypoint prints – Crisp, delicate lines. Etching prints – Beautiful, detailed impressions.
I’ll also share tips for adjusting the pressure to get the best results. While laminators can also be used for lino and relief printing, my expertise is in intaglio, so if relief printing is your thing, I’d recommend checking out artists who specialize in that area—the principles are very similar!
I’ll walk you through: Setting up your laminator for printmaking, The materials I use for different techniques and how to adjust pressure to improve your prints
If you’re curious about printmaking but don’t want to invest in a big press just yet, this is a fantastic way to get started. Watch the video now and see if a laminator could work for your printmaking needs!
